- Subject: MPW QR1 Bug Killed!
- Gentlepersons,
-
- Some days ago, I posted a message to MacApp.Tech$ which contained a warning
- not to use the version of MPW 3.2 (aka QR1) that was supplied on ETO#1,
- beacuse it contained a weird bug. The bug showed itself when (a) the linker
- placed jump table entries in the global data segment, and (b) the app
- attempted to execute some routine that resided in a "small" segment.
-
- I am happy to report that, while the problem was real, it has been fixed. The
- versions of the compiler and linker that will appear on ETO#2 fix the bug.
- ETO#2 should be appearing in about a month.
-
- In the meantime, if your application has run into the 32K jump table (4092
- jump table entries) limit, you might consider contacting Apple to get the
- versions of the tools that fix the problem. They are:
- • Linker: 3.2b1.4
- • Pascal: 3.2b1.1, last modified on or later than Oct 3, 1990
-
- Chris Knepper, Jeanette Robinson, and Keith Rollin (in alphabetical order),
- and probably others I haven't even heard of, deserve particular praise for
- their efforts to nail down and fix this bug. Well done!
-
- Looking forward to ETO#2 and, someday, MacApp 2.1, I remain
-
- Yours,
-
- James Plamondon
